Our scientific interests focus on the coordination chemistry, structure and thermodynamics of studied metal - peptide complexes, in particular on the interactions of antimicrobial peptides with biologically essential metals (Zn(II), Cu(II) or Ni(II)) - we aim to find and understand the relationship between coordination chemistry, biological activity and mode of action. We plan to modify those antimicrobial peptides in order to enhance their biological action and attach them to peptide-based metallophores – chelating particles that help pathogens in metal ion uptake. To obtain a full characteristic of examined complexes, we use mass spectrometry, potentiometric and calorimetric titrations and spectroscopic methods (UV, CD, NMR, and EPR).
